Assault landings....Royal Commonwealth Marines......indeedy
I've made a 1:100 scale sci-fi hovercraft!
From ArmiesArmy blog:
////////////////////////////////////////////
Every Marine needs a good Beach Landing Assault vehicle and here is mine. The light assault hovercraft will come in different varieties due to its modular nature, with both a fully enclosed cabin and a open crewed cabin. Further examples will carry heavier weapon loads, APC's , Power Armor Troops and specialized commando raiders .
Nick Kondratov has done a great job of taking my design and modelling it, all whilst starting his new degree (best of luck Nick:))
I have a bunch of releases to get out of the way over the next month and then Ill have bunch of new items off to printing and casting.
thanks
Keith

Ninth planet of Taya translation progress
I started translating Soviet era diafilms (filmstrips) and even created a new Soviet Diafilm blog. The first filmstrip called "Ninth planet of Taya" and was first released in 1964 in black and white and later in colorized version.

Test of Soviet Diafilm translation :)
While waiting for your comments and opinion on my possible English translation of science fiction Diafilms (Filmstrips) from Soviet Union, I decided to make a sample translation of third frame from "Ninth planet of Teya (1980)".
Here you can see an original and a translated frame. To keep the feel of Russian Cyrillic font (pretty simple and boring font in my opinion, but it is the widest used font in Russia), I choosed regular Arial font. As you can see sentences in English language are much shorter than in Russian.
3rd frame in Russian.

"The Gift" short film
Quoting from youtube page of http://www.youtube.com/user/PradProductAymeNeo
///
Directed by Carl E. Rinsch, 'The Gift' Belongs to the "pararell Lines" Phillips Cinema campaning. Placed in Russia, The Gift is a Sci-Fi short with a savage Chase sequence on it. We made more than 20 full CGI shots for the short. Check out the animated pictures to see how it has been done. We also made the vechicles and some characters desings. We enjoyed creating such an unusual atmosphere and sense. Not the regular Sci-fi film we are used to see...

Silent Running (1972) and my damned Soviet childhood :)
Just saw a classic sci-fi movie called Silent Running (1972). Very good emotional, sad and naive movie. Like it a lot. Thankfully its unlikely that situation with forests from this film can happen in real life.
I have no idea why at the end of the movie Lowell took Huey with him on board of Valley Forge before he nukes the ship, leaving Dewey alone in greenhouse drifting into deep space? Yes Huey was damaged but he still able to help Dewey or at least Dewey wont be alone.
PS. Because I spend my childhood in Soviet Union and modern Russia before immigration to Australia five years ago, I missed lots of classical films and serials and now I have a "mission" to watch them all.
PS I am 28 years old, so situation is not hopeless.

Fantastic Planet (1973) - La Planete Sauvage (cartoon)
Just found this old sci-fi cartoon on youtube and want to share it with you.
...............
Adapted from Stefan Wuls novel(La Planete Sauvage), this psychedelic sci-fi animated movie depicts a social catastrophe on the far distant alien planet Yagam, run by the Draags, highly intellectual, spiritual, blue-skinned, red-eyed giants. Their household pets are tiny, pink-skinned bipeds called Oms who were brought from the planet Terra. Fed up with the maltreatment from their owners, the oppressed Oms decide to start a rebellion to achieve equality and a better life. But the Draags are determined to exterminate the entire species once and for all. Fantastic Planet was the winner of a 1973 Cannes Film Festival grand prize.
